Medicine Wheel Meaning
The central arrows represent the 4 directions of the wheel and more than north, east, south and west. Those four quadrants themselves represent more than one concept. Let me explain. The quadrants represent the phases of life (childhood, adolescence, adulthood, Elder), the seasons of the year (spring, summer, fall, winter), the four cardinal directions (east, south, west, north) as well as our four sides (physical, emotional, mental and spiritual).
It is obvious that the Medicine Wheel can be represented in a variety of ways. Appliquéd feathers or engraved, with or without gemstones, wide band cuffs of thin band, with a wheel that symbolizes the 4 directions or one that symbolizes a drum and sinew weaving. ( Historical sinew which was used for sewing was the tendons of a deer or elk. )

is a way of creating a sacred space. In a medicine wheel each direction has an animal that lives there and stands for one type of energy. For example, in our medicine wheel the East has the owl and stands for
change, the South has the lion and stands for passion, the West has the bear and stands for healing power, the North has the turtle and stands for grounding, and the center has She who gardens us from above and stands for spirit. Each person calls in their own animals that hold or represent for them each energy and each direction. The medicine wheel can be populated by any of the animals that live or have lived around you on the earth.
